SEA WITCH GLASS

ARTIST BIO

I began working with glass in a production studio in Boulder Colorado in 1988. After 10 years, plus 2 years freelancing and 2 sessions at Pilchuck Glass School, I took a long hiatus to pursue a different career. My love of glass finally beckoned me back. Thus, the start of Sea Witch Glass in Maine. I am endlessly fascinated and challenged by the flow of molten glass, which evolves from a hot lava-like fluid to a solid, shiny state upon cooling.

I hand shape each piece from molten glass. And then further enhance it through the cold-working (faceting) process. This involves using a variety of lapidary cutting wheels, engravers and sometimes optical adhesives. The faceting adds more sparkle and vibrance to each piece. I love the spectacular end result of combining hot shop work (glass blowing & sculpting) with cold woking (cutting & polishing). The whole process allows for the creation of endless patterns, swirls, bubbles and shapes inside and out.
