We are delighted that you are interested in applying for membership at Just Us Chickens. Our cooperative actively seeks both emerging and seasoned artists to join our vibrant community. The diversity of our members’ backgrounds and experiences creates unique opportunities for learning and inspiration, fostering an environment where creativity thrives.
Membership Application Process
To join our Coop, you must go through a jury process. After submitting your application, you will receive instructions to bring samples of your artwork to our shop. Current members will review your work, ensuring that we maintain the quality and individuality that define our product selection. Once the peer review is complete, the jury committee will count the votes and notify you of the results within one month of receiving your artwork.
Membership Categories
Just Us Chickens offers two levels of membership, each with its own commission structure:
Working Member: Working members commit to volunteering their time by staffing the shop and participating in all aspects of the business. Members are expected to work four half-day shifts per month, attend monthly organizational meetings, assist with decision-making, and help with other operational responsibilities.
Non-working Member: Non-working members commit to keeping their display fresh and well stocked. While not required to work in the shop, these members are encouraged to participate in special events and attend annual meetings.
We welcome applications for both Working and Non-working Member categories, and the jury process does not discriminate based on your choice of membership level.
Membership Dues and Commissions
All members pay monthly dues of $20. These dues help offset essential costs such as rent, utilities, supplies, advertising, fixtures, accountants, and social media. The commission structure is as follows:
Working Member: 80/20 commission split (members receive 80% of sales, the shop receives 20%)
Non-working Member: 65/35 commission split (members receive 65% of sales, the shop receives 35%)
Membership Agreement and Tax Information
Once accepted, you will be asked to sign a contract detailing the financial and work relationship between you and Just Us Chickens. As an LLC, Just Us Chickens files a tax return each year and provides all necessary paperwork for the Internal Revenue Service if your commissions exceed $600.
