Nelson Linscott
Photographer, Poet, and Peace Activist
About Nelson Linscott
Nelson Linscott, a native of Kittery, is known locally as the unofficial "Mayor" of the Kittery Foreside. He is widely recognized in the Seacoast region for his work as a photographer, poet, and peace activist.
Nelson became interested in photography in 1973 while serving in the Army where he had access to a darkroom. Using traditional 35-millimeter cameras, he learned how to control the depth of field, light, and speed to compose the perfect picture. After being honorably discharged, he took a 30-year break before picking up a camera again. Initially slow to embrace digital cameras, Nelson soon realized their transformative power, allowing him to focus on the creative side of photography rather than the technical aspects.
A devoted dog lover, Nelson is rarely seen without his canine companions, the late Baxter and his current dog Luna, who have accompanied him on countless photographic journeys. His insightful photographs and thoughtful writings are widely shared on social media, offering a window into the spirit of the Seacoast community.
